Welcome to Cashel Unit's Homepage
Cashel unit has been serving the community of Cashel since 1992. The unit has since grown and expanded both in membrs and services. Please take the time to navigate through the site by using the links on top and on the left of page. On this site you can find First aid advise and learn about the skill involved in becoming part of an ambulance crew . Recieve a valid First Aid certificate and the opportunity to further your training by becoming a member of your local unit. Order of Malta units are all over Ireland for your nearest unit check the list on the left or go to Headquarters for further details.
Please note that new members are always welcome and anyone can come along to see what we are about.
Normally a new member must complete a series of training modules before being allowed to attend duty as a uniformed member. This training (for adults) initially will consist of modules in First Aid and Emergency Skills. Modules on Patient and Manual Handling, Caring for the Sick and Order of Malta procedures and policies will then follow after a new member has enrolled.
We would love to hear from anyone who has a few hours to offer each week or month and is willing to undergo a period of training.
There are also current vacancies on our driver roster. If you would like to be involved as an ambulance driver either trained or as an auxillary we would also welcome your interest. Drivers generally have to be over 25 years of age and be in posession of a D1 licence or willing to take the D1 driving test.
The Order of Malta Ambulance Corps was established in Galway in 1938 and, since then, has expanded to become the premier First Aid / Community Care Organisation in Ireland. We operate over 130 ambulances and are located in over 80 communities throughout the 32 Counties of Ireland. Our volunteers range in age from ten year old Cadets to valued veteran members in their eighties. We are probably best known for our ambulance and first aid activities at sporting and other public gatherings. We are, however, also very active in the areas of community care, nursing services and youth development. www.orderofmalta.ie
We provide First Aid classes to the community. We also provide :
First Aid cover for sporting events and transport services to elderly and disabled in the community. Membership of the Senior unit is open to persons over 16 years of age with a few hours to spare in serving the community. Full training will be given from Basic first aid to ambulance and life saving skills . Contact us for a full list of current training classes or check the Cashel Unit page here for more information. Membership of the Cadets is open to youth between the ages of 10 and 16. On joining, members will be given foundation training in basic lifesaving skills.
